The Lunar or Chinese New Year is fast approaching! Something I have long celebrated even before I met my part Taiwanese hubby. ;P
So in honor of that I will be revisiting Chinese zodiac inspired drawings for the next six days. There might even be something new on the last day!
Today is another personal piece, this time from 2016. My Chinese zodiac is monkey, a metal monkey to be precise. 2016 was indeed year of the monkey, but it was a fire monkey year, and that means a rough year of change for metals. And to this day, 2016 is still referred to as the year of hell for me. Its when I decided to overcome the physical injuries as well as the burnout I had been suffering that had been severely hampering my art for 6+ years. Its also when my hubby stepped in and took over management of White Noise Graphics and set it on a path of steadily increasing profitability. And that is not even getting into all the personal and health issues, as well as external crisis we also faced that year.
Year of hell it was, but it was a forge or gauntlet that help hone my craft and strengthen my resolve and confidence, allowing me to get to were I am today.
That said, I actually did not get to finish this image to my personal satisfaction. It was suppose to be very stylized in the coloring but I think it would benefit from extra shading and a different approach to the lighting. Someday I hope to go back and redraw it. Plus some day I'd like to flesh out the zodiac inspired world my dueling monkeys hail from and/or complete my zodiac series.
