The Girly Things

I'm a girl. No matter how 'boyish' or 'manly' I may act, dress, or my interests may be, I am still a girl. And as such I like 'girly' things once in a while.

Normally my tastes in movies and TV series run along the swashbuckling, action packed, epic adventure, buddy comedy, super hero, whimsically dark, suspenseful, plot and character development driven vines. I was never one for 'chick flicks'. But I do like a dash of romance here and there as long as it's not contrived and the girl (or guy for that matter though this is rare) is not a glorified McGuffin. I also like stories with fairy tale, myths, and legend motifs, especially twists on the traditional norm of these (though I could never get into Once Upon a Time for some reason, sorry if that disappoints people).

I am also at the very least 20% geek. I like animation and anime. I may be old school about it and no longer really have a clue of what is out there or what is any good (though I have started a list of recommendations from people and ones that look good from random AMVs I have run across. I just hope to some day have time to watch a few of them) but that doesn't change the fact I like it.

As such I have a few 'girly guilty pleasures'. For example, those that know me really well know I adore Princess Tutu (even though magic girl motifs tend to really annoy the crap out of me, for this show it's forgiven).

Well I started watching a new one, Yona of the Dawn. It reminds me of Fushigi Yuugi, and even though it's predictable and has the male haram thing going on, I'm actually enjoying it so far.

It's also amusing my hubby Ryan so much as I cuss and yell at my laptop when ever a character does something stupid while I work on artwork and page layout design for White Noise Graphics. ^^; He's so use to me normally playing Disney's Tarzan, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, 5th Element, Beetlejuice, or Little Shop of Horrors as background while I work. I consider it revenge for how much he plays The Burbs on repeat while he exercises (I should have never introduced him to that one. ^^; ). ;p

After all that long rambling, the point is: It's good to mix things up now and again and indulge all sides of our personalities. Even the sides we are shy about sharing or are very small.

Next question, will there be fan art? Time will tell. Not done with the series yet.
