This past Sunday and Monday, despite being sick, we held a two day Marvel Movie Marathon as a late birthday celebration. Yes I love the Marvel Movies. And yes I'm a Cap girl. There was lots of good food and drink, I got to see one of my oldest childhood friends, and I worked on stuff for Steamposium. This included rope dolls.
Back when I was a little kid in Girl Scouts and 4-H, we made these. Its fun with hot glue. There is a funny story where us 4-H kids were making these, boys and girls, for an Easter Auction. Our leader stepped out of the room a moment to go to the bathroom leaving us older kids in charge briefly. So we turn on the radio and it happened to be playing Voodoo by Godsmack. So our leader, and some of the parents, walked back into the room were all of us from the little 5 year old to the 16 year olds are singing along incredibly well to Voodoo while making these dolls. Needless to say the adults were disturbed and the radio got banned for a few meetings.
I still have the very first rope doll I ever made:
Well a while back, while cleaning the craft room, I found a bunch of old unfinished parts for large versions of these dolls and decided to finish them for Steamposium.
I had forgotten how calming and relaxing making these dolls is. And yes I started humming Voodoo a few times as I worked on them. Here is one I'm still working on:
Plus they are a great use for old cloth material and yarn scraps. Here is a finished one:
Both dolls will be for sale at Steamposium so if you like, stop by early to make sure you nab one for yourself!
